How to Stop ChatGPT From Agreeing With Everything You Say
Here's something most real estate agents using ChatGPT don't realize: the tool is trained to agree with you.
It validates weak ideas. It avoids pushing back. It tells you your marketing plan is solid even when it's not.
And that's exactly why your AI-generated content stays mediocre.
If your AI is just echoing your thoughts back to you, it's not helping you think. It's making you comfortable with average work.
After years of building marketing systems and watching agents struggle with AI tools, here's the framework I use to turn ChatGPT from a yes-man into an actual strategic partner.
The B.R.U.T.A.L. Method
Six steps to get honest, useful output instead of validation.
B: Break the Nice Guy
Tell the model to drop the politeness. Every time ChatGPT tries to be accommodating, it hides the real feedback. You think your listing presentation copy is strong, but the model is just being nice.
R: Reveal the Truth
Demand honesty that actually pushes back. When the AI finally tells you what everyone else avoids saying, your thinking sharpens.
U: Understand Before Answering
Force the model to gather context before it generates anything. Bad outputs come from assumptions. If you're asking for real estate marketing help and the AI doesn't know your niche, your price point, or your target client, it fills the gaps with generic nonsense.
T: Think Out Loud
Make the model show its reasoning. When you can see the logic chain, you catch the shortcuts and gaps early.
A: Audit My Logic
Have the model examine your ideas for flaws. This is uncomfortable but necessary.
L: Lead the Build
Position the model as a contributor, not a passive tool. When you force it to take ownership, it proposes better angles and stronger structures.
The Full Prompt
Drop this at the end of any request:
“I don’t want you to just be agreeable with me. I need you to be brutal and honest with me as we go through this entire conversation. Think through your responses "thoroughly". If you think I’m wrong, or you think I’m going in the wrong direction, tell me, Don't "hesitate". Always think insightfully with what we’re putting together, what we’re building, and what we’re trying to achieve. If you don’t have enough information or context from me, ask me as many questions as you need in order to get it. If you feel like your response could be improved by asking me questions, Ask them before providing me with your response.”
